I've been emailing back and forth with TKL about ordering a group of custom cases. The minimum order is 24 but the break down in price seems reasonable. I'm wondering if anybody here has another spot they go to? It would be great to be able to compare prices and numbers with somewhere else.

My guess is if you have a TKL dealer in the area they would give you a BIG discount on 24 items. That's basically several large boxes, and it would make them look really good to their wholesaler. TKL is good stuff, too.

Maybe I wasn't clear? I need a custom built case for an odd shaped guitar that I want to get at least 10-20 case made for. TKL will do this and I'm wondering who else does.

Ameritage has handled my needs for cases on custom shapes. They may cost a bit more but they are also better built than TKL.

Great people! Plan ahead, there is a wait, but the wait is worth it.

Custom cases are 6-8 weeks with Ameritage. If you order stock from Ameritage, they arrive in under a week. And they do give discounts to builders without crazy hoops to jump through. I have twice tried Cedar Creek, and as soon as I mention I am a builder, the receptionist shuts down, puts up a wall, asks for proof, and they NEVER call back. In my case anyways. The times I did call them back, it was clear they did not want me to call back as it was made clear that they would call me.

So, its Ameritage for me. Good stuff. Plus, they are a forum sponsor. Only reason I looked at Cedar Creek was for a lighter case. One can hope that one day Ameritage will come out with a lighter case.

Edit: Clearly I missed the custom part. Sorry.

the price here in Canada for a custom 24 case order from the company that makes TKLs (in Montreal) is pretty cheap (somewhat under 100 - Cdn $) ... I doubt that Ameritage can come close .. yes the Ameritage is a better, albeit much heavier case, but ... I am guessing its still 2-3 times the cost ...

Well it sounds like Ameritage is the next best option but a spendy one and it's a single order. The folks at TKL have been friendly and I had no problem getting a builder price from them on small orders off their stock line of cases. It has been a bit like pulling teeth to get all my questions answered about a custom built case, ask 5 get an answer back for 1 but at this point it's all figured out.

I was hoping I could do a smaller run of around 10 instead of 24 but it seems like an order of 10 cases from Ameritage would end up being much more than an order of 24 from TKL. I've got a nice brown alligator, black plush and nickel hardware case picked out from TKL that would get built for the guitar and I think I'm going to go with that.

What is the guitar that has no case already in existence, requiring custom work?

I usually order three Ameritage cases at a time. That gives me the first price break. I am sure for a ten to twenty case order your break would be signifcant.
